A fascinating video. In the French-language media coming from Quebec, there are many stories relating local concerns about the potential energy ‘gold rush’ … particularly involving some rock formations to the south. This video shows some of the long-term reasons for these concerns.

Developing shale gas in Quebec will result in 20,000 leaky multimillion dollar wells that will ultimately be the responsibility of taxpayers, according to a team of researchers lead by Dr. Marc Durand, a professor of geology engineering at UQÀM (University of Quebec at Montreal). This video was released today, and it makes an analogy between the industry’s projected activities and a laboratory experiment. It’s a little hard to follow at first if you are not already familiar with shale gas, but it becomes clearer as the video continues. You can also find out more about shale gas on Dr. Durand’s Facebook Page.
